Hubrecht Duijker
Hubrecht Duijker, pioneer and vinpressionist at heart. As a pioneer of Dutch wine journalism, Hubrecht Duijker has left an indelible mark on the way we look at wine in the Netherlands. At a time when wine was hardly taken seriously, he was the first full-time wine writer to put the subject on the map. His first article appeared in 1969 and from 1974 he devoted himself entirely to wine, creating a new profession in the Netherlands.
Since then, he has written more than 120 books, from accessible wine guides to in-depth works on classic wine regions such as Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rioja. His clear style and encyclopedic knowledge made wine understandable and engaging for a wide audience. Duijker’s influence did not go unnoticed. He was awarded international honors, including Wine Communicator of the Year and the Julia Child Award, and he received knighthoods from the Netherlands, France and Spain. In Margaux, the heart of Bordeaux, he was even named an honorary citizen.
In addition to his writing, Hubrecht is also active as an artist. Since 2010, he has been painting under the name “vinpressionist” and has now produced hundreds of paintings. His love of expression is also reflected in art books and short video productions. Less well known is that he was a game reviewer for many years. Under a pseudonym, he wrote about board games for over twenty years and collaborated on the television program Hoge Ogen.
Still traveling with his American wife Julie, he writes essays on wine and art and shares his insights monthly through his website Vinpressionist. His curiosity, creativity and zest for life make him one of the most versatile voices in the world of wine. From smell and memory to health, from tasting to personal stories.
About conscious enjoyment, drinking less and still experiencing more. For curious bon vivants, gastronomy professionals and anyone with a love of wine, but with depth.
